As founding member and managing attorney of The O’Connor Law Firm, P.C., Mr. O’Connor brings to his clients a wealth of expertise and an unparalleled passion for justice. Serving as the District Defender for the Fifth Judicial Circuit and later founding a thriving private practice, Matthew J. O'Connor has experienced tremendous success on a variety of legal playing fields. A seasoned Missouri criminal defense attorney with extensive trial experience, Mr. O’Connor’s legal expertise and storied courtroom skills have resulted in numerous successful verdicts for his clients. The media throughout northwestern Missouri has noted his charisma in court. As a result, he has been called on many times to serve as a television legal commentator and expert for several high profile trials in the region. Though he is best known for his trial practice, Mr. O’Connor is proud of his many appellate victories. Due to his strength and style of appellate advocacy the Attorney General’s Office has three times been forced to uncharacteristically confess error and concede reversal of Mr. O’Connor’s clients’ convictions.

His talent as an attorney stretches far beyond the criminal arena. Since entering private practice, Mr. O’Connor also has focused his energies on federal criminal defense, DUI/DWI, personal injury claims, state criminal defense, federal drug charges, appellate advocacy, and class action case management; including successfully negotiating a multi-million dollar class action settlement for his clients.  Mr. O'Connor also obtained a million dollar settlement for a client as a result of a products liability case. As a result of his many successes, Mr. O’Connor has been asked to share his expertise at employment seminars and co-authored the 1998 Supplement for the Missouri Bar Criminal Procedure Publication. Mr. O’Connor was again asked by the Missouri Bar to write the chapter for the 2000 Supplement for the Criminal Procedure Publication.  In 2005, Mr. O'Connor authored the Arrest Chapter for the Missouri Bar.

Mr. O’Connor has served as a member of the Kansas City Missouri Bar Association Committees for Criminal Law, Business Law, Juvenile Law, and Civil Litigation. Mr. O’Connor is a regular guest lecturer at the University of Kansas Law School. In addition to presenting seminars and lectures, Mr. O’Connor serves as an Adjunct Professor for Park University .
